WHAT’S NEW FROM VALLIER THIS SEASON?
Polartec recycled Sherpa fleece jackets start off your cooler months, with transitions to lightweight down jackets in Pertex. I’m really happy about the Japanese flannel shirt and dress. Our Oxford shirt is all organic cotton and redesigned, and there are more Merino knits as well.
WHAT ARE YOUR HIGHLIGHT PIECES FOR MEN & WOMEN IN FW 2020?
Our monochrome black parkas for sure, with the shorter men’s and a remodelled women’s silhouette, a new all-black lining, and details worth looking for. That Japanese flannel is so soft. The flannel pieces are very East-meets-West, and rep our concept of better urban living.
VALLIER CLOTHES HAVE DISTINCT NAMES— WHY ARE THEY ALL NEIGHBOURHOODS FROM AROUND THE WORLD?
We’re influenced by places we’ve visited, heard of, or wish to see. That starting point, from memory or imagination, creates a feel for the item. Names also interweave history and culture—in some way, the Hiroo shirt and Nishi dress evoke elegant, fashionable West Tokyo.
HOW HAS VALLIER’S STYLE CHANGED FROM YOUR FIRST FW SEASON IN 2019?
Our style hasn’t changed—we’re still about pleasing Vallier vets and newbies looking for apparel for better living that works in all weather. We’ve expanded our collection, and re-thought some of our older pieces into better versions, but the fundamental outlook is strong and pertinent.
WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT POINTS ABOUT VALLIER’S DESIGNS?
There are plenty, like sophisticated detailing, attention to cuts and shaping, and more use of eco-friendly materials. Two standouts compliment each other: adapting everyday apparel with the best technologies we can find; and, from there, re-thinking classic styles into pieces both modern and long-lasting.
WHO ARE THESE CLOTHES MADE FOR? WHEN WOULD PEOPLE WEAR VALLIER?
Our clothes are made for those wanting to get the best use out of their garments. They’re made to be worn. And they’re made for everyone: people looking for simple, classic, even efficient additions to their wardrobes; lovers of details; fabric nerds—everyone.
